Course Objectives: Student acquires knowledge about the different environments that are inhabited by organisms in the geological past. Mastering in interpretation of data obtained paleontological analysis of flora and fauna, and in making conclusion on paleoecological conditions during sedimentation. |
Learning Outcomes: Through this course students acquire knowledge about the principles and methods of paleoecological research. |
Content:
Theory teaching Definition and objectives; Methods of paleoecological research; The most important concepts and terms. Marine environment and its characteristics. The impact of the marine environment in the animal communities; The impact of marine organisms on the environment; Animal migration in the geological past; Definition and tasks of taphonomy; Basics of plants ecology - definition, object of study and basic concepts of ecology and phytoecology. The division of environmental factors; The ways in which the plants enter the sedimentary sequence; decomposition of plant material; Changes in plant material after its deposition in the environment; changes that occur due to diagenesis; recent depositional environments in which plants-bearing layers are formed. Morpho-functional analysis; Methods of paleoenviroments analysis and their reconstruction - data acquisition and processing; Data interpretation (paleoenviroment modeling). Practical teaching Practice accompanies lectures and comprise independent work of students on a specific material and instructive examples. |
