Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to acquire knowledge about the evolution of life on Earth. |
Learning Outcomes: Students gain knowledge about the emergence, development and extinction of different groups of organisms through geological time, as well as changes in paleogeographic and paleoecological conditions in the Earth’s history. |
Content:
Theory teaching The first forms of life. Theories about the origin of the first cell capable of division. The oldest known fossil groups. The most famous fossil biocenoze of nonskeletial organisms. The first evolutionary explosion. Great diversification and expansion of various marine organisms. The conquest of the mainland. The earliest land plants. The emergence of the first dinosaurs and early mammals. Mesozoic dominance of dinosaurs and other reptiles. Revival of the living world after the great catastrophe of 65 million years ago. Diversification of mammals. The emergence and development of man. Practical teaching Practical work on the fossil material. Making presentations of independent student work. |
