Course Objectives: Introduction to basic hydrogeology concepts, types, formation, movement and discharge of groundwater.
Introduction to the importance of groundwater in the global hydrological cycle and their use for various needs such as water supply, balneology, drainage of mines, drainage and irrigation of agricultural surfaces, heating of greenhouses, and similar. |
Learning Outcomes: Students learn to identify the hydrogeological properties of rocks. |
Content:
Theory teaching Concept, source and types of groundwater. Physical, mechanical and hydrogeological properties of the rocks. Groundwater flow. Physical, chemical, radiological and microbiological composition of groundwater. Hydrogeological structures. Concept, elements and classification of aquifers. Springs concept and classification. Relationship between groundwater and surface waters. Definitions, basic elements and classification of groundwater regime. Meaning and classification of mineral waters. The importance of groundwater and hydrogeology in general (water supply, balneology, agriculture, mining, energy, hydroelectricity, commercial exploitation of spring and mineral water, protection of groundwater from contamination). |
