Phenomena of Heat and Mass Transfer

Study program:
Mining Engineering (I semester -PhD)
Name of subject: Phenomena of Heat and Mass Transfer
Instructors:
Prof. Marija Živković
Status: Optional
ECTS: 10
Prerequisites: -
Course Objectives:
Education about specifics of phenomena and processes of thermal engineering and their mathematical description. Studying of simple and complex heat transfer cases.
Learning Outcomes:
After a successful completion of the course, student can solve problems of steady state and transient conduction, determine temperature distribution, heat flux, temperatures at characteristic points, calculate coefficients of heat transfer at different conditions, calculate area of heat exchangers and heat flux.
Content:

Theory teaching
Conduction. Temperature field, temperature gradient and flux. Steady conduction. Heat transfer. Heat transfer in sticks and ribs.Transient conduction.Graphical Methods for temperature distribution determination. Convection. Heat transfer in laminar flow. Heat transfer in turbulent flow. Free convection.Convection coefficient. Radiation. Radiation between solid bodies. Radiation by gases and vapours. Heat exchangers. Mass transfer. Molecular diffusion. Convective diffusion with the presence of a solid body. Convective diffusion between two fluids.

Practical teaching
Problem-solving related to topics given in the lectures. Within exercises, students will write essays to further elaborate and analyse problems.
