Study program:
Geology (IV semester -BsC) |
Name of subject: Historical Geology A |
Instructors:
Prof. Katarina Bradić Milinović, Jelena Stefanović |
Status: Compulsory |
ECTS: 6 |
Prerequisites: General Stratigraphy |
Course Objectives: Objective of the course: The aim of this course is to familiarize students with the historical development and evolution of the Earth's crust and our planet from the cosmic and geological phase to the modern age. |
Learning Outcomes: Outcome of the course: Understanding the most important organic and inorganic changes, processes and events during the long geological history of the planet Earth and the ability for further detailed stratigraphical research. |
Content:
Theory teaching Definition and relation to other geological disciplines. History of development. The cosmical and geological phase in the development of our planet. The history of the Earth in Arhaic and Proterozoic and the main tectonic, biostratigraphic and paleogeographic properties at classical sites in Europe. The evolution of the planet in Paleozoic and the main tectonic, biostratigraphic and paleogeographic properties at classical sites in Europe. The geological history of the planet in Mesozoic, the main tectonic, biostratigraphic and paleogeographic characteristics, the most important global events and significance. Evolution of the planet in Kenozoic of Europe and main tectonic, biostratigraphic and paleogeographic characteristics. The phenomenon, evolution and disappearance of the Paratethis epicontinental sea. Basic characteristics of quaternary deposits of Europe. Pleistocene ice age, climate change, hominid occurrence and their significance. Practical teaching Practical tasks are performed (drawing of stratigraphic columns, local profiles). Individual work is planed, with practical work in the field and in the stratigraphic collection. |
