Instruments and Methods in Crystallography

Study program:
Geology (I semester -PhD)
Name of subject: Instruments and Methods in Crystallography
Instructors:
Prof. Aleksandar Kremenović
Status: Optional
ECTS: 10
Prerequisites: none
Course Objectives:
Modern techniques of registering the intensity of diffracted X-rays on single crystals and polycrystalline materials are examined. The principles of working with different crystallographic instruments are studied.
Learning Outcomes:
After passing a course, students should be familiar with theoretical basis in the field of modern crystallographic instruments for X-ray diffraction on single crystal and polycrystalline materials.
Content:

Theory teaching
Sources of radiation. Generators. X-ray tube. Electron diffraction. Neutron diffraction. Synchrotron. Instruments for radiation detection. Diffractometers and powder cameras. Goniometers for a single crystal. Counting chain for powder and single crystal diffractometers. Modern detectors for diffracted radiation. Low and high temperature adapters. High pressure adapters.

Practical teaching
Practical exercises are closely connected to lectures. One seminar work is planed to be realized.
