Study program:
Geology (I semester -PhD) |
Name of subject: Mineralogy of Silicates |
Instructors:
Prof. Suzana Erić |
Status: Optional |
ECTS: 10 |
Prerequisites: - |
Course Objectives: Acquiring knowledge about characteristic parageneses of silicates with special emphasis on the chemical classification of individual mineral species, the specific characteristics of their structure and the calculation pressure and temperature of phase equilibrium in different silicate systems. |
Learning Outcomes: The ability of students to solve mineralogical problems in different silicate paragenesis (chemical classification of minerals from different groups of silicates, a position of major and microelements in the structure of minerals, calculation of equilibrium pressure and temperature). |
Content:
Theory teaching Structure and principles of silicate classification. Physical properties (adsorption, absorption, electrical conductivity, magnetism, color). Biopiriboli and polysomatic series. Modulated structures. Polymorphism and thermodynamic conditions of minerals formation. Geothermobarometry. Mechanical properties of silicate systems: speed of spreading of ultrasound and dynamic modulus of elasticity. Practical teaching Observations and measurements on silicates under the microscope for polarized light. Calculations of equilibrium pressure and temperature in different silicate paragenesis. Measurement of the mechanical properties of silicates. |
