Study program:
Geology (I semester -PhD) |
Name of subject: Geology and Oil and Gas Exploration - Selected topics |
Instructors:
Prof. Aleksandar Kostić |
Status: Optional |
ECTS: 10 |
Prerequisites: - |
Course Objectives: Gaining latest knowledge on petroleum geology and its practical importance for exploration. Learning about different aspects and processes of generation, migration and accumulation of oil and gas in sedimentary basins, as well as about unconventional resources. |
Learning Outcomes: Mastering in processing of number of research results related to petroleum-geological characteristics of sedimentary basins. Synthesis of relevant results and planning of independent research of specific area. |
Content:
Theory teaching Recent knowledge on petroleum geology, resources exploration and assessment. Source rocks, reservoir rocks, seals, traps and petroleum deposits. Transformation of kerogen into oil and gas; primary, secondary and tertiary migration of petroleum. Hydrocarbon alteration during migration and after accumulation. Unconventional resources of oil and gas. Sedimentary basins and petroleum potential. Modern concept and methods of petroleum exploration. Characteristics of productive sedimentary basins and petroleum fields in the world and in Serbia. Practical teaching Identification and characterization of dispersed organic matter in petroleum source rocks and oil shales. Determination of organic matter maturity: vitrinite reflectance and other maturation indicators. Analysis of basin geometry and petroleum migration paths. |
