Course Objectives: Mastering modern numerical tools for the soil structure interaction analysis under dynamic influence as well as in soils subjective to swelling, shrinkage and liquefaction. |
Learning Outcomes: Ability to use modern numerical methods and tools in soil structure interaction analyses. |
Content:
Theory teaching Foundation on: poor soil, collapsible soil, expansive soil; soil subject to liquefaction; Foundation structures loaded by dynamic load. Determination of their limit and allowable load. Settlements of dynamically loaded foundations. Coefficient of vertical subgrade reaction and determining the behaviour of soil and foundation based on them. Coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction of soil and determining the behaviour of soil and pile based on them. Improvement of foundation soil by mechanical and chemical stabilization. Improvement of foundation soil by performing gravel piles. Geosynthetics application in foundation engineering. Finite element method and finite difference method application in foundation engineering. Application of modern numerical programs in foundation engineering (e.g. Plaxis 8, Z-soil, SoilVision, etc.). Application of 2D and 3D analyses on retaining structures, shallow and deep foundations. Practical teaching Consultations. Audio-visual presentations with examples of modern software tool application; Seminar Paper etc. |
