Study program:
Geotechnics (V semester -BsC) |
Name of subject: Rock Mechanics |
Instructors:
Prof. Miloš Marjanović |
Status: Compulsory |
ECTS: 6 |
Prerequisites: - |
Course Objectives: Familiarizing with the basic terms, principles and methods of investigating physic-mechanical properties and natural stress of rock masses, as well as their behavior under different types of loading. |
Learning Outcomes: Familiarizing with the importance of the rock mechanics, and enabling application of acquired knowledge in geotechnical investigations. |
Content:
Theory teaching 1. Scope and definitions of basic terms, short history of development. 2. Physical properties of rock masses, practical importance of determining these properties, and methods of investigation. 3. Heterogeneity and anisotropy of rocks in respect to physical-mechanical properties and mechanical behavior. 4. Rock discontinuities. 5. Scale effect. 6. Definition and character of deformation, and definition of the deformation and elastic moduli. 7. Investigation of rock deformability, laboratory tests, static and dynamic. 8. Rock strength, basic definitions. 9. Determining rock strength, laboratory tests. 10. Determining rock strength, in-situ tests. 11. Stresses in rock masses Practical teaching Familiarizing with the measuring equipment and instruments for laboratory and in-situ tests of mechanical strengths, deformability, primary and secondary stresses. Numerical problems related to experimental investigation, and solving practical problems. |
