Course Objectives: Knowledge on the basic physical and chemical characteristics and morphology of the main petrological and ore minerals. |
Learning Outcomes: Qualifications to determine mineral species based on their morphological and physical properties. |
Content:
Theory teaching The history of mineralogy and mineral as the main component of the lithosphere; Characteristics of crystalline and amorphous matter; Crystals, boundary elements and elements of symmetry; Crystal systems and crystalline classes; The manner of appearance of minerals; Physical properties of minerals; Genesis of minerals; Chemical characteristics and classification of minerals; Native elements, sulfides; oxides, hydroxides, carbonates, sulphates, halides and borates; tectosilicates, phillosilicates; inosilicates; cyclosilicates, sorosilicates and nesosilikates. Practical teaching Determination of boundary elements and elements of symmetry on crystal models; Macroscopic recognition of theoretically processed mineral species based on characteristic physical properties. |
