Course Objectives: Introduction to the method, calculation and selection of mining machines. |
Learning Outcomes: Acquiring the necessary theoretical knowledge, from the point of view of the design and selection of mining machines |
Content:
Theory teaching Introduction to the course, concept of teaching and exam. Basic concepts and production processes in mining. Requirements and limitations for operation of machines in surface mines. Operating conditions of mining machines, working environment, specificities. Conceptual solution of the machine. Phases of designing and testing of mining machines, assembly, commissioning. Dynamic character of the life cycle of mining machines, maintenance and machine life cycle. Legislation in the design of mining machines and standards. Calculation and selection of drive systems of mining machines Calculation of load and design of transport equipment and working equipment. Calculation of loads and design of conveyors. Calculation of steel structure loading. Synthesis of calculation models to the level of the entire machine. General conclusions, machine prices and possibilities for reducing it. Costs of acquisition, ownership and operation of mining machines Selection of mining machines by technical characteristics Selection of mining machines by type. Selection of mining machines by number. Practical teaching Exercises are including practical examples related to the construction and the selection of machines, as well as the calculation and deduction of individual sets of machines. Calculation and selection of drive systems of mining machines. Load calculation and design of transport equipment. Load calculation and design of belt conveyors. Calculation of loads and design of excavation machines. Selection of machines for surface mine. Cost of ownership and operation of mining machines. |

Conduct of the Course: Theoretical teaching is carried out as classroom lectures with multimedia support. Practical classes are partly performed in the classroom through assignments and the presentations related to mining machinery and partly by the tour of mining sites and facilities. |
