Course Objectives: Learning elements of petroleum geology, genetic model of petroleum deposits and their types, unconventional oil and gas resources and their characteristics. Overview of global petroleum resources and resources of Serbia. Modern petroleum exploration conception and methods. |
Learning Outcomes: Gaining basic knowledge on petroleum geology at level necessary for understanding formation of petroleum deposits, modern methods of their exploration, types and characteristics of unconventional resources of oil and gas. Mastering in construction of basic graphical models of deposits (maps and cross-sections). |
Content:
Theory teaching Genetic model of petroleum deposits: generation, migration and accumulation of hydrocarbons. Distribution of oil and gas resources and reserves in the world and in Serbia. Physical and chemical characteristics of oil and gas. Natural reservoirs, productive reservoir rocks and seals. Petroleum traps, elements and classification. Oil and gas deposits and fields, characteristics and classifications. Unconventional resources of oil and gas and their features. Petroleum exploration: history, modern conception and methods. Sampling and samples types in petroleum exploration. Geological, geochemical and geophysical methods in petroleum exploration: techniques, purpose and importance. Exploratory drilling for oil and gas: positioning of wildcat and step-out wells; exploration procedures during drilling. Practical teaching Construction of cross-sections and structural contour maps of oil and gas deposits. Analysis of giant petroleum fields of the world and oil and gas fields in Serbia. Classification of traps and petroleum deposits. |
