Petrology and Geochemistry (VIII semester -MsC)
Name of subject: Field Course in Petrology and Geochemistry
Instructors:
Prof. Bojan Kostić
Status: Compulsory
ECTS: 8
Prerequisites: no
Course Objectives:
Getting knowledge and skills for field-work, core-logging and implementation of geochemical and petrological data.Introducing with the main metallogenetic belts in Serbia and neighboring countries. Introducing with types of deposits, particularly those in Serbia, and alteration styles.
Learning Outcomes:
Candidates should be able to collect data during field-work and core-logging by themselves and to take into consideration petrology of rocks, alteration style, and geochemical signatures. Recognition of indicative minerals under microscope for distinct alterations is expected.
Content:

Theory teaching
wall-rock alterations and the commonest type of deposits. Indicative minerals for each. Special attention will be paid on porphyry and epithermal deposits, as well as on skarn, sedimentary hosted and massive sulfide deposits.

Practical teaching
practical work on a field (individual)on instructive profiles and outcrops. Individual core-logging and recognition of indicative minerals and alteration style under microscope. Geochemical signatures of each.
