Course Objectives:
How modern instruments used in crystallography are created and how they work is subject of investigation.
Learning Outcomes:
After passing a course, students should be familiar with theoretical basis in the field of modern crystallographic instruments for X-ray and neutron diffraction of single crystal and polycrystalline materials.
Content:

Theory teaching
Neutron diffraction. Properties of neutron. Neutrons production. Spallation. Nuclear fission. Nuclear reactors. Classification of reactors. Fast neutrons moderation. Moderators. Interaction between a neutron and an atom. Scattering of neutrons from atoms. Interaction between a neutron and a magnetic atom. Scattering of neutrons from magnetic atoms. Magnetic structures. Optic and detection of neutrons. Safety procedures and neutron radiation. Modern X-ray diffraction sources. X-ray tube with rotating anode. Synchrotron radiation. X-ray production in a synchrotrone radiation source. Injectors. Radiation produced with aid of bending magnets.

Practical teaching
Practical exercises are closely connected to lectures. One seminar work is planed to be realized.
