Instruments and Methods in Crystallography 2

Study program:
Minerology and Crystallography (VIII semester -MsC)
Name of subject: Instruments and Methods in Crystallography 2
Instructors:
Prof. Aleksandar Kremenović
Status: Optional
ECTS: 5
Prerequisites: Instruments and methods in crystallography 1, X-ray structure analysis
Course Objectives:
It is learned how to collect experimental data for solving the unknown structure of single crystals using X-ray diffraction.
Learning Outcomes:
After passing a course, students should be familiar with theoretical basis in the field of X-ray analysis of single crystals.
Content:

Theory teaching
Single crystal investigation. Reflection goniometer. Goniometer head. Laue method. Oscillation and reflection methods. Weissenberg method. Precession method. Modern automatic single crystal X-ray diffractometers. Instrument coordination system. Orientation matrix. An experiment planning and processing with a point detector. An experiment planning and processing with a two-dimensional detectors (CCD and IP). X-ray data collection strategy. Intensity measurements. Diffraction data correction (reduction).

Practical teaching
Practical exercises are closely connected to lectures. One seminar work is planed to be realized.
