Deposits of Metallic Mineral Deposits

Study program:
Economic Geology (VIII semester -MsC)
Name of subject: Deposits of Metallic Mineral Deposits
Instructors:
Prof. Miloš Velojić
Status: Compulsory
ECTS: 5
Prerequisites: -
Course Objectives:
Acquiring of general knowledge about geochemical cycles, minerals and ores, genetic and economic types of mineral deposits of different metallic resources. Providing the knowledge about metallogenic evolution, metallogenic division, metallogenic provinces and epochs of formation of metallic mineral deposits of Serbia and adjacent areas as well as geologic features of characteristic cases of world-class metallic mineral deposits.
Learning Outcomes:
Acquiring of the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of geologic and economic characteristics of different metallic mineral deposits. Providing fundamental knowledge for studying prospection of mineral deposits, their exploration and geological-economical evaluation.
Content:

Theory teaching
General terms about mineral deposits. Classifications of metallic mineral deposits. Spatial and temporal evolution of metallic mineral deposits. Metallic mineral deposits and plate tectonics. Metallogenic division, metallogenic provinces and epochs. Environments of genesis, regional metallogenic position and epochs of creation of metallic mineral deposits. Geochemical features, cycle and distribution, minerals and ores, genetic and economic types of ore deposits of the following elements: Fe, Mn, Cr, Ti, V, Ni, Co, Bi, W, Sn, Cu, Mo, Pb-Zn, Sb, Hg, As, Al, Au, Ag, U, Th and PGE elements.

Practical teaching
Macroscopic and microscopic determination of ore samples. Analysis of economic types of ore and morphologic types of ore bodies on examples. Field work: Visiting significant metallic mineral deposits of Serbia. Introduction with the properties and graphical presentaion of the studied ore deposits.
