Geology (III semester -BsC)
Name of subject: Petrology of Igneous and Metamorphic Rocks
Instructors:
Prof. Bojan Kostić
Status: Compulsory
ECTS: 7
Prerequisites: no
Course Objectives:
Introducing with the both, macroscopically and microscopically identification of rock fabric (texture and structure), mineral composition and introducing with the main igneous and metamorphic rocks.
Learning Outcomes:
Qualifying for direct practical work in the field and in the laboratory (determination of rocks and petrographic analyses: texture, structure, mineral composition). Preparation for higher levels of studies.
Content:

Theory teaching
Introduction. Rock-forming minerals. Igneous rocks: mode of their occurrence, fabric (texture and structure), classification. Main groups of igneous rocks: intrusive, volcanic and vein rocks. Metamorphic rocks: fabric, division, mineral composition. Petrology of regional-metamorphic rocks. Petrology of contact-metamorphic rocks. Petrology of wall-rock alterations. Economic importance, geotectonic setting and their distribution, particularly in Serbia.
