Regional Engineering Geology

Study program:
Geotechnics (X semester -MsC)
Name of subject: Regional Engineering Geology
Instructors:
Prof. Biljana Abolmasov
Status: Compulsory
ECTS: 2
Prerequisites: -
Course Objectives:
Acquiring basic knowledge on natural rock stress state, redistribution of stress around engineering or mining underground and ground objects, causes of underground pressures, as well as their measurement and control.
Learning Outcomes:
Familiarizing with the importance of the rock mechanics and enabling the students to apply acquired knowledge in geotechnical investigations for design, construction and exploitation of objects.
Content:

Theory teaching
1. Introduction. Regional factors of determining engineering-geological conditions of object construction. 2. Orographic, hydrologic, hydrogeologic, climatic, and geothermal provinces of former Yugoslavia. 3. Tectonic provinces of former Yugoslavia. 4. Geological setting and tectonics of Carpatho-Balkanides. 5. Geological setting and tectonics of Moravides and Šumadides. 6. Geological setting and tectonics of Dinarides and Pannonian basin. 7. Basic factors of engineering-geological regionalization in Serbia. 8. Engineering-geological setting, properties and object construction conditions in Pannonian basin terrains. 9. Engineering-geological setting, properties and object construction conditions in peri-Pannonian basin, and Lower Danube plain. 10. Engineering-geological setting, properties and object construction conditions in inner Dinarides and Carpatho-Balkanides. 11. Engineering-geological setting, properties and object construction conditions in Dinaric karst. 12. Engineering-geological setting, properties and object construction conditions in Serbo-Macedonian mass. 13. Engineering-geological setting, properties and object construction conditions in peripheral basins and karst fields. 14. Engineering-geological setting, properties and object construction conditions in magmatic rock terrains. 15. Regional distribution of the current geodynamic processes.
