Works in the Soil

Study program:
Geotechnics (VI semester -BsC)
Geotechnics (VIII semester -BsC)
Name of subject: Works in the Soil
Instructors:
Prof. Dušan Berisavljević
Status: Optional
ECTS: 4
Prerequisites: Soil mechanics
Course Objectives:
Introduction to geotechnical works in soil. Mastering methods for solving typical problems which occur in geotechnical works in soil.
Learning Outcomes:
Acquiring basic knowledge from Geotechnical works in soil.
Content:

Theory teaching
Introduction; Geotechnical classification systems (USCS, GN 200, AASHTO); Building in and compaction of material and determination tests of compaction and soil stiffness; Compaction criteria of natural terrain and materials built in the embankment; Basic earth works – procedures for the construction of cuts and embankments; Protection of embankment and cut slopes: slope inclinations, position of retaining walls, coating protective walls; Levelling and transport of earth masses –profile of surfaces, mass profile, balanced line principle; Application of construction machinery in earthworks; Longitudinal and transverse drainage structures for drainage of surface and underground water; Mechanical and chemical stabilization of soil; Technologies of stabilization processes; Geotechnical works in environmental protection.

Practical teaching
Individual calculation exercises which include four tasks that follow lecture program. Audio-visual demonstrations of geotechnical works in soil.
