Prof. Dušan Berisavljević
Status: Compulsory
ECTS: 6
Prerequisites: -
Course Objectives:
Introduction to the basic physical-mechanical properties of soil. Use of soil parameters in numerous geotechnical analyses of soil-structure interaction.
Learning Outcomes:
Acquiring basic knowledge from soil mehanics.
Content:

Theory teaching
Introduction (historical development, task and subject of soil mechanics); Methods of sampling (equipment, dimensions, authority, representative); Structure of soil and clay minerals; Phase composition; Granulometric composition – porometric composition; Consistence (types and stages); Classification and soil naming (USCS, AASHTO); Field identification of soil; Permeability, waterproof, capillarity; Stresses and strains and stress-strain characteristics – Mohr circle; Geostatic stress state ( Terzaghi’s principle of effective stresses); Experimental investigation of stress-strain characteristics of soil; General of strain characteristics of soil; General of shear strength of soil; Documentation of the investigation results.

Practical teaching
Demonstrative and individual laboratory exercises as well as audio-visual presentations. They include nine tasks which follow lecture material and two independent laboratory exercises.
