Geotechnical Investigations

Course Objectives:
Learning the basics on technology and principles of borehole drilling in geotechnics. Performing geological, geophysical, hydrogeological and geotechnical investigations during the borehole drilling and logging.
Learning Outcomes:
Familiarizing with the importance of the borehole drilling, and enabling application of acquired knowledge in geotechnical investigations.
Content:

Theory teaching
1. Short history of drilling, borehole definition, its elements and principles of drilling. 2. Technical maneuvers, drilling machines and equipment. 3. Application of drilling fluid. 4. Borehole clogging and drilling accidents. 5. Borehole coating and grouting. 6. Borehole investigation and logging. 6. Application of drilling in geotechnics. 7. Environmental protection measures. 8. Drilling design and planning. 9. Shallow and deep ground works.

Practical teaching
Direct familiarizing with the drilling equipment and technology, instruments and techniques of investigations in boreholes. Borehole design.
