Course Objectives:
Introduction to genesis, characteristics and distribution of fossil fuels in sedimentary basins: oil, gas, tar sand, oil shale and coal. |
Learning Outcomes:
Learning basic and specific topics of geology of fossil fuels. Gaining knowledge necessary for further learning of geology of petroleum, oil shale and coal deposits. |
Content:
Theory teaching
Classification, characteristics and importance of fossil fuels: oil, gas, oil shale, tar sand, coal. Chemical and physical characteristics of fossil fuels. Genesis of fossil fuels. Sedimentary basins, deposition environments and accumulation of organic matter. Processes of organic matter transformation. Control factors of fossil fuels distribution in the lithosphere. Elements of oil shale and tar sand geology. Elements of petroleum geology. Elements of coal geology. Resources and reserves of fossil fuels in the world and in Serbia. Practical teaching
Macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of various fossil fuels: petroleum, reservoir and source rocks, oil shales, tar sands, coals. Reconstruction of burial history. |
