Course Objectives:
Acquiring knowledge about the basic components of coal, their origin and occurrence in nature, as well as the possibilities of their rational use.
Learning Outcomes:
Gaining general and specific knowledge and skills from the field of coal geology. Acquiring the necessary knowledge for further successful solving of the research problem and geological and economic assessment of the coal deposits.
Content:

Theory teaching
Origin of organic components of coal. Chemical composition of organic matter. Decomposition of organic components of plants and their transformation. Chemical, physical and petrographic changes during the carbonification process. Basic components of coal. Mineral matter in coal. Basic characteristics of coal. Processes of formation of coal facies, layers and formations. Cyclic structure of coal-bearing formations. Coal layer, facies and formation. Classification of coal-bearing basins and coal deposits and their characteristics. Display of coal basins and deposits in the world and in our country. Possibilities of using coal. Collection and processing of data of research and analysis. Use of coal. The impact of coal combustion on pollution of the environment.

Practical teaching
Within the exercise, the collection of samples will be introduced, as well as the identification of macroscopic and microscopic components of coal. It is planned to process and systematize the data of research and production of reports.
