Course Objectives:
Acquiring practical and theoretical knowledge in the field of safety of work and technical protection in technological mining systems, and mineral processing of raw materials.
Learning Outcomes:
Trained for hazard identification and risk assessment. Ability to record and analyze injury and occupational illnesses. Trained for measuring gas concentrations and planning of protection measures. Ability to measure air-born dust concentration and design of protection measures. Assessment of the climate conditions of the working environment. Ability to measure noise and vibration and to plan protection measures. Training in application of respiratory protection devices. Principles of organizing technical protection in mining technological systems and mineral processing of raw materials.
Content:

Theory teaching
Principles of safety at work. Occupational injuries and occupational diseases. Basic sources of hazard in mining and the measures of technical protection. Gases in a mining atmosphere. Mineral dust in the mining environment. Noise and vibration. The mining climate and its control. Illumination in mines. Personal safety devices and their application. Technical measures of protection in underground exploitation. Dynamic occurrences in mines. Technical protection measures in surface exploitation. Air pollution. Hazards and measures of fire protection. Explosions in mines. Rescue service in mines.

Practical teaching
Legislation (rules and standards). Records and statistics of injuries and professional illness. Laboratory and portable instruments for measuring gas concentrations. Methods and instruments for measuring the concentration of mineral dust in the atmosphere of the working environment. Methods and instruments for assessing the climate factors of the working environment. Methods and instruments for measuring noise and vibration in working environments. Fire extinguishers. Breathing protection devices. Methods of early detection of mine fires. Methods and procedures for preventing the mine explosions. Mine rescue plan.
