Safety and Security in Mining Technology Systems

Study program:
Mining Engineering (IV semester -PhD)
Name of subject: Safety and Security in Mining Technology Systems
Instructors:
Prof. Nikola Lilić, Prof. Aleksandar Cvjetić
Status: Optional
ECTS: 10
Prerequisites: -
Course Objectives:
Acquiring of theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of development and organization of protection management systems in technological processes of mineral resources exploitation and mineral processing in preparation for independent research work in this field.
Learning Outcomes:
Ability to research in the area of risk assessment and management. Being skilled of air pollution modelling in working environment and of development of strategic occupational health and safety protection plans and measures. Ability to deal with occupational noise issues based on noise modelling and development of action plans and measures. Planning and organizational skills in terms of occupational health and safety and technical protection system in the technological processes of mineral resources exploitation and mineral processing.
Content:

Theory teaching
The initial course units include studying contemporary principles of protection at work and methods of assessment and risk management in mining technological systems. Gases and mineral dust as prevalent and most dangerous pollutants in mine working environment are of primary focus of the course regarding mine atmosphere. Students are getting known with modeling of mine atmosphere pollutants dispersion and with planning and designing of the protective measures. Students are trained to assess the climatic conditions of the working environment as well as noise prediction, zoning and planning of the noise protection measures. Technical protection in underground exploitation of mineral resources includes the study of modern technical protection measures during design and development of projects of underground workings, excavation and transport. Dynamic phenomena in underground mines are studied as well as penetration of ground water into mining facilities. On the course students are also studying the issues of technical protection measures in surface mine exploitation, air pollutions regarding to surface mines activities, dangers and measures of fire protection and explosion in mines. At the end of the course students are introduced to the way of planning and organizing rescue services in mines.
