Selected Topics in Surface Mining Technology

Study program:
Mining Engineering (III semester -PhD)
Name of subject: Selected Topics in Surface Mining Technology
Instructors:
Prof. Lazar Kričak
Status: Optional
ECTS: 10
Prerequisites: Reclamation of open pit mines
Course Objectives:
Introducing students with advanced techniques of designing the surface mining systems, production planning, making the technological schemes and plans, modeling and methods for optimizing technological procedures and processes on surface mines.
Learning Outcomes:
Acquiring knowledge that can later be applied in practice in the field of surface exploitation technology for mineral deposits.
Content:

Theory teaching
Structure of the surface mining systems. Analysis of technological processes of continuous systems. Analysis of technological processes of discontinuous systems. Decomposition of the exploitation systems. Decomposition of technological processes. Resources of the exploitation systems. Organization of the work of the discontinuous exploitation systems. Organization of work of continuous exploitation systems. Organization of work of combined exploitation systems. Modeling the working environment and using the model in the function of analyzing the possibility of using a specific exploitation system. The capacity of the exploitation system based on the established reliability parameters. Statistical determination of system capacity. Optimizing the capacitive effects and reliability of the continuous systems and its elements. The basic objectives of the model of the exploitation system. The exploitation system with the technology of work and the adjustment of the characteristics of the working environment and the characteristics of the equipment for exploitation by choosing the appropriate technological parameters. Analysis of capacities by real-space and real-time simulation technique. Model testing and validation. Models of excavator, loader, dredge and bulldozer excavator work. Models of work of bucket wheel excavators, surface miners, bucket chain excavators and reclaimers. Infrastructure facilities in the function of supply and functioning of specific exploitation systems. Technology, tools and organization of mining auxiliary and preparatory works. Overview of software models of equipment and surface exploitation systems. Application of software on specific examples.

Practical teaching
Practical classes will take place in the form of writing a seminar paper on a given subject in accordance with the doctoral dissertation topics election.

Conduct of the Course:
Lectures are conducted using a combined method (ex catedra / case study). Theoretical teaching content is conducted using the "ex catedra" method with the support of computer presentations, the second part of the lecture is done by the "case study" method, i.e. analysis of characteristic cases and examples that illustrate theoretical content. Study research work involves the preparation of seminar work and individual work with students.
