Basics of Geophysics B

Study program:
Geotechnics (III semester -BsC)
Hidrogeology (V semester -BsC)
Hidrogeology (VII semester -BsC)
Underground Construction (VII semester -BsC)
Name of subject: Basics of Geophysics B
Instructors:
Prof. Dejan Vučković
Status: Optional
ECTS: 5
Prerequisites: Mathematics 1, Physics 1
Course Objectives:
The aim of the course is to familiarize with the theoretical and practical aspects of geophysical research methods that are most commonly applied in solving hydrogeological and geotechnical problems, such as electrometric, electromagnetometric, seismometric methods, and rarely applied methods such as gravimetric, morphometric and magnetometric methods of research. Also, consideration is given to the application of geophysical methods in surface and subsurface, which are almost always applied in hydrogeological and geotechnical practice.
Learning Outcomes:
The outcome of the course is acquiring the basic knowledge and competencies necessary for further training for work in specialized teams in which geophysics is present, as well as the application of results of geophysical procedures in different fields of research.
Content:

Theory teaching
The concept of applied geophysics, the divisions of geophysical research methods, the electrometric method of investigation (the procedure of specific electrical resistance, self potential), the electromagnetometric method (GPR), the seismometric method of research (direct wave, refracted and reflected wave procedures), techniques of sounding, tracing, profiling and mapping . 2D oriented crossed radiation techniques (Cross-Hole). Morphometric method (filtering, decomposition of spectral content).

Practical teaching
Computer processing and modeling of data from geophysical research. Methods of analytical and numerical processing of data bases, 1D and 2D modeling.
