RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

 


Major disciplines are igneous petrology, volcanology, geochemistry and mineralogy, as well as their relations to regional and structural geology, tectonics and ore deposits formation.

The main objective is related to the study of igneous formations of the Balkan Peninsula and adjacent regions especially Intra-Carpathian area and Rodopes. Special emphasis is on petrogenetic and geodynamic interpretation of igneous rocks of different age using geochemical data and integrating them with textural relationsips and geological evidence. Development of a volcanological approach in investigation Serbian Mesozoic and Cenozoic volcanic provinces is also important. The scientific work has also comprised also the Tertiary evolution of the upper mantle underneath East Serbia, which is inferred from characteristics of mantle xenoliths and their basanitic host.

During the last five years the effort has been made on capacity building at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Mining and Geology in establishing two laboratories: Laboratory of Scanning Electron Microscopy equipped with Energo-Dispersive Spectrometry (SEM-EDS) and Laboratory for Fission Track Dating.
